Ester-C® 1000
The Ester-C® with Extra C
Scientific BackgroundThe immune system is a complex set of actions and reactions designed to recognize invaders that could compromise health and expel them from the body. A poorly functioning immune system exposes the body to germ-caused illnesses; a malfunctioning immune system appears to be at the root of such auto immune disorders as allergies, arthritis, and perhaps even cancer. Immune functions can be compromised by stress, chronic illness, genetics, an excess of pro-oxidants in the diet and the environment, and many other factors.
How it Helps
Vitamin CVitamin C is best known for strengthening the immune system. Studies have shown that 5 grams (5000 mg) of vitamin C can double the rate of key activities of white blood cells, the soldiers of the immune system. Vitamin C also fights heart disease by assisting with cholesterol metabolism. Most people consume vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, but ascorbic acid passes out of the body quickly, so little of it is absorbed. It can also cause gassiness, bloating, and diarrhea. Ester-C® is made from calcium ascorbate formulated through a patented process so that it neutralizes intestinal acids and can therefore be absorbed without discomfort. It also contains a form of calcium, which enhances absorption.
Quercetin
The use of quercetin in Ester-C® 1000, rather than citrus-source bioflavonoids, makes this the ideal immune support for individuals who cannot tolerate citrus. Bioflavonoids are potent antioxidants found in plants. They enhance the immune-supporting functions of vitamin C and provide a number of protective functions within the body. Quercetin is one of the most potent bioflavonoids. It is best known for its anti-inflammatory activity, which results from its ability to inhibit the manufacture and release of histamine and other allergic and inflammatory agents.
Other Important Points about SISU Ester C® 1000
Vitamin C can cause gassiness, bloating, or diarrhea. Although this is much less likely with Ester-C® than with regular ascorbic acid, an individual with a sensitive gastrointestinal (GI) system may still experience discomfort. If you experience intestinal discomfort, try a lower dose Ester-C® product, such as Ester-C® 600 or Chewable Ester-C®. Begin with a single tablet or capsule and increase dosage, at different times of day, to bowel tolerance level.
Contraindications
Vitamin C can cause false positives in urine when testing for glucose. Not indicated for those with hemachromatosis as vitamin C increases iron uptake.
